Firefox No Script

NoScript adds an entry to Firefox's right-click context menu which you can use to allow or disallow sites, or to open the options and other features of the extension. If you use the icon, you can make use of a couple of smart features the developer has built-into the extension. To allow all scripts on the current site, middle-click the icon. For this reason, when you upgrade to Firefox 4 or install NoScript in Firefox 4 and above, NoScript checks whether the Add-on Bar is hidden or not: if the Add-on Bar is hidden, NoScript's icon gets moved up to the navigation bar, near the address box, at the top of Firefox's window; otherwise it stays at the bottom, inside the Add-on Bar. Mozilla Firefox is a fast and convenient web browser with a lot of great features. But, when you open several pages at once, you could be faced with the problem – “Warning: Unresponsive script”. When this message appears, Mozilla Firefox browser can’t load the page and becomes unresponsive. If you press any button on that message, you will not be able to continue with browsing. I use NoScript regularly on Firefox, and recommend it for daily use. It doesn't block ads, so you still support the site costs for their administrators. However, it does block flash ads, greatly reducing your CPU load when browsing (provided that you have the flash plugin installed).

NoScript is Free Software (source code): if you like it, you can support its progress :)

NoScript 10 'Quantum' resources

The NoScript Firefox extension provides extra protection for Firefox, Seamonkey and other mozilla-based browsers: this free, open source add-on allows JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plugins to be executed only by trusted web sites of your choice (e.g. your online bank).

NoScript also provides the most powerful anti-XSS and anti-Clickjacking protection ever available in a browser.

NoScript's unique whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known, such as Meltdown or Spectre, and even not known yet!) with no loss of functionality..

You can enable JavaScript, Java and plugin execution for sites you trust with a simple left-click on the NoScript status bar icon (look at the picture), or using the contextual menu, for easier operation in popup statusbar-less windows.

Experts do agree..

03/10/2014, Edward Snowden endorses NoScript as a countermeasure against state Surveillance State.

08/06/2008, 'I'd love to see it in there.' (Window Snyder, 'Chief Security Something-or-Other' at Mozilla Corp., interviewed by ZDNet about 'adding NoScript functionality into the core browser').

03/18/2008, 'Consider switching to the Firefox Web browser with the NoScript plug-in. NoScript selectively, and non-intrusively, blocks all scripts, plug-ins, and other code on Web pages that could be used to attack your system during visits' (Rich Mogull on TidBITS, Should Mac Users Run Antivirus Software?).

11/06/2007, Douglas Crockford, world-famous JavaScript advocate and developer of JSON (one of the building blocks of Web 2.0), recommends using NoScript.

03/16/2007, SANS Internet Storm Center, the authoritative source of computer security related wisdom, runs a front-page Ongoing interest in Javascript issues diary entry by William Stearns just to say 'Please, use NoScript' :)
Actually, NoScript has been recommended several times by SANS, but it's nice to see it mentioned in a dedicated issue, rather than as a work-around for specific exploits in the wild. Many thanks, SANS!

NoScript is an extension for Mozilla Firefox, designed to prevent JavaScript and Flash scripts from being executed by your browser. This tool can bring extra protection to your browser by blocking clickjacking and other potential threats.

Non-intrusive Firefox add-on

You are not bothered by warning messages since the extension works in the background and stops the scripts that can be dangerous for your computer. You can configure the extension to display a short report with the blocked scripts in the add-on toolbar. If you would like to be notified when a script is blocked, then you can enable the audio feed back.

Manage permissions by creating lists

Perl for mac. It is possible to select the websites you do not want to be affected by restrictions by adding them to a whitelist. It is a very easy to import a list of domains from a text file and you can also export the list if you want to back up the information. All privileges can be revoked if you want to be notified about all blocked items.

The types of scripts can be allowed or blocked from the 'Options' window. If you are on a webpage and there are some important functions disabled by the extension, then it is possible to unblock the script temporarily with just a few clicks.

Trust or untrust websites, and other advanced settings

Some restrictions, such as blocking incoming objects, can be applied even to domains on the whitelist. If you have doubts about a certain website, then it can be marked as untrusted and subjected to additional restrictions.

Ios emulator for mac. Advanced users can limit untrusted websites in order to increase the extension's efficiency. You can use this section to create Anti-XSS (cross-site scripting) protection exceptions or to use external filters to check the webpage.

Conclusion

Overall, the extension is a very useful tool that allows you to browse the Internet with less interference from malicious scripts. It is mostly designed for experienced users, though.
